Based on ideas taken from Koeln E52b, Telefunken T9K39 type radios captured from the Germans during WW2, the Krot - "Mole" - type receiver was developed in 1947
led by Vera Vasilyevna Elizarova and the partticipation of A.A. Savelyev, who led the development of the R-250. Krot radio was produced between1948 and 1952 at the
Kharkov radio factory and later, between 1953 and 1960 they produced the slightly modernized version with the name of Krot-M. The changes are the followings:
- the front panel was painted grey-blue instead of the previous black
- the gold-plated contacts of the drum shifter were replaced with silver-cadmium alloy.
